Creams + Coconuts

One of my all time favourite ingredients is coconut – both to eat and as a skin care ingredient. How can you not love its sweet aroma, milky texture and its ability to work wonders on the skin?

Skin care: In the form of coconut oil, it is an excellent moisturizer with potent anti-oxidant and anti-bacterial properties. It is excellent for parched skin and it also works well to soothe irritated skin. Coconut oil contains 90% saturated fatty acids which helps to strengthen skin barrier function for supple, youthful-looking skin. In the form of coconut water, it boasts super hydrating and toning properties, making it an ideal ingredient for combination skin.

Skin food: Coconut has been known to help with digestion, enhance the absorption of other vitamins and minerals in your diet and boost one’s immunity. It’s a fantastic food for times of stress when your immune system may be particularly weak.

Below are four of my top picks for creams containing either coconut oil or coconut water.

{1} Lavanila Coconut Vanilla Body Butter – Formulated with 100% pure Shea, cocoa butters, coconut oil and 30 essential vitamins and minerals for deep moisturization. For those of you who have not tried Lavanila yet, you need to… STAT! I accept no responsibility if you’re instantly hooked though.
{2} Laura Mercier Honey Bath – First of all, don’t you love the wooden honey dipper? Take a little bit of the product with the dipper, run it under warm bath water for delicately scented bubbles. Coconut oil moisturizes and soothes. Check out the other Almond Coconut Milk products in this line as well – simply lovely!
{3} Super Hyper Hydrator with Coconut Water – A new line by Dr. Perricone called Super. The hero superfood in this daily moisturizer, is — well, coconut water, of course! It works to re-balance and hydrate the skin, sans parabens, sulfates, petrochemicals and synthetic dyes. All I can say is, yes please!
{4} L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream – A dreamy blend of honey, almond, coconut oil and shea butter for supple and oh-so-baby-soft hands. This is one of the top-rated hand creams, and I can definitely see why.
