Gentle Cleansers for Combination Skin

Hello Miss Beauty Nerd,
I love the blog!! I was wondering what you think are some good gentle cleansers. I have combination skin and use Retinol A. Still searching for the perfect cleanser….
Thank you,

Hi J,
Thanks so much for your question! Below are three cleansers, with varying price points, that I find works quite well with combination skin and also has the ability to soothe irritated skin.

{1} Jurlique Balancing Foaming Cleanser ($34) – It is a little pricey, but the combination/sensitive skin types swear by this cleanser. It produces a nice foam and cleans effectively without drying the skin. I also love the natural scent!
{2} Bare Escentuals Purifying Facial Cleanser ($20) – Since the debut of Bare Escentuals’ skincare line, I’ve been pining for these products. I love how the texture is milky and hydrating but lathers up into a nice foam. Again, this cleanser does a good job removing excess oils but still leaves your skin feeling hydrated. Bonus – you can even use it to dissolve eye makeup.
{3} Neutrogena Naturals Purifying Facial Cleanser ($8) – If you have an issue with breakouts (since you have combination skin), you may want to try this cleanser because it does contain some natural salicylic acid which will help exfoliate and declog your pores. However, given that you are using Retinol A, I would caution against using this product if you have sensitive skin.

Note that although these are my recommendations, different people react to various products differently. For the first two products which are sold in Sephora, you may want to ask their staff for a sample of each cleanser so that you can try it at home before you purchase. Unfortunately for mass products like Neutrogena, it will be harder to sample before you buy. Also, since you are using Retinol A, don’t forget to wear a good sunscreen during the day, since Retinol A will increase your sensitivities to the sun.

Hope that helps!
