There are some really great beauty products out there. And then there are the where-have-you-been-all-my-life, can’t-live-without beauty products that make us have a Eureka moment upon discovery.
This is how I feel about the newly reformulated Urban Decay eyeshadow singles. Already a big fan of their original eyeshadow, I was curious as to how Urban Decay’s new formula would be amplified. The formula was already highly pigmented, blendable and long-lasting – how could it possibly improve? Well, when I swirled my finger in the tester pan, I knew it was love (and so could the Sephora sales associate tell, based on my jaw-dropping expression and sudden gasp) Sure, a touch dramatic…but if you’re a beauty nerd like me, you would likely have reacted the same!
The new formula is absolutely outstanding. Colour is rich and vibrant, texture is velvety yet light, finish is multi-dimensional and long-lasting. In true beauty-junkie style, I knew I had to have it! To select from the gorgeous range of colours was as difficult as picking a favourite ice cream flavour at the parlour counter – which of the 68 shades would I try first? At the end of a rainbow-covered arm of options, I decided on ‘Cobra’, a deep greenish brown hue with a touch of gold shimmer that was simply irresistible. I already envisioned what a hot smoky eye this shadow could create. Done and done! Oh, how I couldn’t wait to try out my new beauty treasure!
According to the Urban Decay website, the secret to their new and improved formula is their Pigment Infusion System™, a vehicle for colour that holds tightly to pigment and gives the formula its glide. Boy, are they right! Upon application, colour is evenly distributed and totally blendable. And talk about mega-payoff– it didn’t take much to build up colour without coverage feeling heavy.
Another notable benefit was how the shadow didn’t flake upon application, as this is a common issue particularly with darker shades – we all know the grief of dark shadow dusting all over our perfectly primed canvases (flawless foundation application is really an art in its own right!) Phew – glad this deep hue stayed where I put it!
The true test, however, would be its longevity. I find many highly-pigmented shadows to have a slightly creamy texture – and although I love the velvety feel, I find shadow to crease on the eyelid after a short while. This new ‘dryer’ formula would hopefully have more staying power. So, I took it for a ‘test-drive’ on a Saturday night (that evolved into the wee hours of the morning) and sure enough, the shadow didn’t budge, holding true to the long-lasting claim.
As far as I’m concerned, Urban Decay’s new formula encompasses everything a gal could want in an eyeshadow and proves itself to be tried, tested and true. I have a feeling this is just the beginning of a long-lasting love affair. Which begs the question: Which shade will you try? Bet you can’t pick just one…
