If you couldn’t already tell, I’ve been taking full advantage of summer and finding any excuse to be out and about. Last week, my friend Danielle and I attended the grand opening of the lovely Laya Spa & Yoga that just opened up in the trendy neighborhood, West Queen Street West in Toronto. Described as a “space where Western culture meets Eastern rituals,” I must say, I was completely smitten by the concept and ambience…
Inspired by Ayurveda, the owner of Laya Spa and Yoga, Alessandra De Oliveira, has created treatments that include things like an Ayurveda Facial, Abhayanga Massage, Chakra Therapy and Aura Cleanse. It is apparent that this is unlike your typical spa. The decor is warm and inviting, as if you’ve just wandered into your tasteful friend’s eclectic home. The manicure/pedicure stations are simply gorgeous, with high-back benches and beautifully tiled foot baths.
Large wooden sliding doors separate each room, be it a treatment room, the manicure/pedicure room or the yoga room. Yup, you heard right – a yoga room. It is Laya Spa and Yoga’s philosophy that yoga should be part of the beauty ritual, which is why they offer daily yoga classes in an intimate setting (maximum class size is just 7 people). In fact, all the Day Spa Packages comes with a complimentary yoga class.
They were giving away mini treatments during the grand opening event, so how could I refuse a hand massage by the lovely esthetician? She massaged the amazing grapefruit cream (made in-house) onto my arms and hands – it was wonderful!
Pressing certain pressure points seemed to melt all my tensions away…
Ironically, Danielle had already been planning to get her eyebrows threaded before our convocation next week. “Sign her up!” I said, and off she went to get her eyebrows shaped and groomed.
Fresh and pretty, post eyebrow shaping, Danielle is now picture perfect! She’s ready for her cap and gown, don’t you think?
And what a way to end an amazing experience with a couple of parting favours… a house-blended Rose Geranium Love Scrub along with a French Lavender bar soap…
We already began planning our next visit… if you’re in the area, don’t forget to stop by! Waxing, facials, massages, threading, and body treatments, you name it, and Laya Spa and Yoga will have you covered!
