Most noteworthy initiatives for October Breast Cancer Awareness Month



Happy Wednesday Beauty Nerds! As you know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and since this cause is always near and dear to my heart, it is important for me to dedicate at least one post to breast cancer in the month of October. This year, I feel as though companies have upped the ante with their pink initiatives, three of which I thought are particularly noteworthy.

First up, is the partnership between Heathrow Terminal 3 and the World Duty Free Group, which is a part of The Estee Lauder Companies’ 2012 Breast Cancer Awareness (BCA) Campaign. From October 9-16, 2012, the terminal and the World Duty Free Store will be illuminated with pink lights, as a symbol to remind women of the importance of breast health. Keep your eyes peeled for other pink illuminations of global monuments or landmarks across the world that are also participating in The BCA Campaign’s Global Landmark Illumination Initiative.

Second, is OPI’s sparkly pink polish, You Glitter Be Good to Me, launched as a limited edition colour for Breast Cancer Awareness month. OPI has donated $25,000 to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, in association with the 2012 Pink of Hearts program. How could one refuse something pretty, sparkly and for a good cause?

Last but certainly not least, Rethink Breast Cancer has always been known to take a fresh perspective on offering tailored support for breast cancer patients. They have teamed up with a variety of beauty, fashion and lifestyle companies to design products where proceeds will go towards breast cancer education, support and research programs. Whether you want to shop their list of pink products or make a donation, just head on over to their site.

Remember ladies, don’t forget to do regular breast self-exams. If detected early, the five-year survival rate for women ages 20-39 is almost 90%!
