The Making of Etude House’s Miss Tangerine commercial

Because it’s totally dreary and rainy today, I thought I would do a more cheery post! And there’s nothing more cheery than an Asian beauty advertisement. The concept of beauty is so different in Asia compared to what we are accustomed to in North America. Beauty is defined more by being “cute” rather than “sexy”. Imagery used in advertisements seem always happy, cheerful, and sweet. Painted by a color palette of soft pastels, Asian ads really aim to appeal to a segment of girly girls where the word “pretty” is part of their everyday vernacular (guilty as charged!).

Although I am not Korean, I discovered k-pop (Korean pop artists) about a year and a half ago, and it instantly became a guilty pleasure for me! Ok fine, laugh all you want. I’ll admit that I’m a big child at heart… but when I went to Hong Kong, Japan and Singapore last year, k-pop was everywhere! Anytime a k-pop group appeared, they were instantly surrounded by little, screaming girl fans. One of my favs, is a group called 2NE1. Dara, a member of 2NE1, has made an adorable commercial for the super, super cute Korean beauty brand, Etude House. The video below shows some fun behind-the-scene footage for their Miss Tangerine commercial. The bright, juicy orange colors in their new line is definitely a happy look for spring. Gotta find joy in simple pleasures :)! C’mon, doesn’t this video make you smile even a little??
